The Supreme Court of the Maldives and the Ministry of Justice of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation aimed at enhancing collaboration between the judicial sectors of both countries. The agreement was formalised on the sidelines of the International Judicial Conference taking place in Riyadh.
Signed on behalf of the Maldives by Chief Justice Uz Abdul Ghanee Mohamed, and by Saudi Minister of Justice Dr Walid Al-Samani, the MoU establishes a five-year framework for expanding legal, administrative and professional cooperation between the two judicial systems. According to the Supreme Court, this marks the first such agreement signed with an Arab Islamic country at this level.
Under the cooperation framework, both sides will work together to strengthen legal and administrative procedures, develop judicial systems, and enhance the professional capabilities of judges and judicial personnel. The agreement also supports the exchange of knowledge, expertise and international best practices across key judicial fields.
The MoU provides for joint academic and technical conferences, seminars, training programmes and workshops. It further enables continued exchange visits between judicial experts from both countries to promote shared learning and the development of modern judicial practices.
