Established under the Administrative Taxation Act in 2010, the Tax Appeal Tribunal is an independent legal body mandated to hear and resolve disputes related to tax assessments and decisions issued by the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA). The tribunal functions similarly to a court and provides taxpayers with a formal mechanism to challenge tax-related rulings.

It operates as a five-member panel, with members appointed by Parliament and serving fixed terms. The Tribunal’s decisions play a critical role in ensuring transparency, fairness, and due process within the country’s tax administration system.
