The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has begun design work for 3,960 housing units to be developed across multiple islands in the Maldives, following the Government’s decision to contract HDC for the nationwide housing initiative. Managing Director Ali Zuhair said that undertaking housing projects across the country is a major opportunity for HDC, and that the corporation is working closely with the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure and local councils to move the projects forward. He also noted that the developments will be carried out through contractor financing for larger projects ranging from 1,000 to 2,000 units, while smaller projects of 50 to 100 units will follow a different financing approach.
