The Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure and the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) have signed a contract to implement the Gaafu Dhaalu Faresmaathodaa Land Reclamation and Shore Protection Project. The agreement, valued at MVR 142.6 million, was signed on 25 December 2025 by Minister Dr Abdulla Muththalib on behalf of the Ministry and Mohamed Jamsheed, Deputy Managing Director of MTCC.

Under the 270-day project, MTCC will reclaim 18 hectares of land and construct 620 metres of rock revetment to address land shortage and support housing needs for the island’s 1,800 residents. The development aims to ease population pressures, expand residential space, and improve coastal protection on Faresmaathodaa.
