Maldives Customs has seized 40 kilograms of hashish oil concealed inside bottles labelled as chocolate syrup, with an estimated street value of MVR 30 million.

The narcotics were intercepted during an inspection of imported goods on Thursday. Several bottles were branded as Chocoville Chocolate Syrup and packed in boxes resembling ordinary food shipments.

Officials said the seizure was made during a special operation after officers noticed suspicious items inside the syrup bottles. On‑site testing confirmed the contents were hashish oil. 

Each bottle contained between 1.10 and 1.14 millilitres, bringing the total weight of the shipment to 40 kilograms.

Authorities have not yet disclosed the origin of the shipment or whether arrests have been made. The investigation remains ongoing.
