Manta Aviation Private Limited has been fined for developing a seaplane platform in Raa Ifuru without obtaining approval from the Environmental Regulatory Authority (ERA).

In a statement, the ERA said Manta Aviation was fined MVR 20,000 for proceeding with construction works without securing the required environmental clearance.

Under the Regulation on Environmental Impact Reports, projects that may cause noticeable changes or adverse impacts on the environment must be screened and approved by the ERA through the submission of an environmental impact report prior to the commencement of work. The Authority said Manta Aviation had failed to comply with this requirement before constructing the seaplane platform in Ifuru.

The ERA has instructed the company to settle the fine within one month, inclusive of public holidays. The Authority has also directed Manta Aviation to submit an environmental impact report in line with regulatory requirements should it intend to continue or resume work on the project.

Manta Aviation Private Limited, which operates under the Manta Air brand, commenced operations in 2019 and is actively involved in domestic aviation services.
