A newly constructed mosque in Hulhumalé Phase II, Masjid al-Iman, has been officially inaugurated following Friday prayers today, becoming a significant addition to the area’s growing religious infrastructure.

The opening prayer was led by young khateeb Al-Hafiz Uwais bin Inaz, with senior officials, including representatives from the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, in attendance.

Masjid al-Iman was funded and built by a private donor, featuring three floors with capacity for approximately 1,200 worshippers. The facility includes dedicated prayer space for women, a wudhu area, parking within the premises, and eight toilets, two of which are designed to accommodate persons with disabilities. The mosque’s design and interior finishing have been described as modern and visually appealing, reflecting efforts to align community facilities with current population needs in the area.

Residents of Hulhumalé Phase II have long highlighted the shortage of mosques and essential public facilities, despite the area being inhabited for several years. The current Administration has stated that it is prioritising the development of religious and educational infrastructure, with work ongoing to complete additional permanent mosques in Phase II. The Government has also announced plans to open 15 new mosques before Ramadan, including facilities in Malé and Hulhumalé.
