The Ministry of Housing, Construction and Infrastructure has announced that the Government’s Aailee Boahiyaavahikan scheme under the Housing for All Policy will now open on Sunday, 18 January 2026, at 09:00 a.m.
The scheme was initially scheduled to open today. However, the Ministry said the date was revised due to the high number of expected applicants, noting that opening the application process just before the weekend could make it difficult to communicate essential information to the public.
The first housing scheme under the Government’s Housing for All Policy was announced on 16 November last year, with detailed rules and eligibility criteria for land and flat allocations published thereafter. Under the policy, the Government has committed to allocating 15,000 land plots in the Greater Malé area and 7,900 flats in the Malé area.
Applications were originally set to open on 4 January 2026, but the date was later postponed to 15 January following concerns raised by residents during community meetings held by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.
Based on public feedback, the Government revised the eligibility criteria to allow recipients of one-bedroom and two-bedroom flats under previous housing schemes to apply for three-bedroom flats, subject to specific conditions related to family size and number of children.
Applicants may apply for either land or a flat under the scheme, but not both, and must apply under the category that best reflects their circumstances. The Government has advised applicants to carefully assess their eligibility before submission.
Flat applications in this round are open to Malé City residents, residents from other islands currently living in the city, and applicants under special priority categories.
All applications must be submitted online via Hiyaavehi Portal using eFaas login credentials.
Priority will be determined based on income levels and living conditions. Applicants are required to provide details on family composition, current housing situation, employment and income, along with documents proving the required period of residence in Malé.
The full eligibility criteria, conditions and scoring system are outlined in the Government Gazette.
