The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has announced the completion of 85 metres of sheetpile installation under the second phase of the Malé Northside Boduthakurufaanu Road Development Project.
Construction began on 9 December 2025, and MTCC confirmed that works on the second segment are progressing steadily. Reclamation works are currently underway, while upgrades to the water and wastewater networks are scheduled for completion next week.
Additional works in progress include the installation of sidewalks along building fronts, stormwater catch pits, and cable junctions, all expected to be finalised within the coming week.
As part of the project, a 250‑metre stretch of asphalt road is being developed from the local market area to North Harbour, with the road widened to six metres. In total, 1,088 metres of road will be upgraded, extending from the Henveiru Ferry Terminal to North Harbour.
The first phase of the project, covering 140 metres, has already been completed. The second phase is targeted for completion before Ramadan, after which the upgraded road is expected to open to the public.
Once finished, the project is expected to modernise roads in the market area, enhance pedestrian safety, improve stormwater management to reduce flooding, and ease congestion in the commercial harbour area, facilitating smoother transportation of goods within Malé City.
