A Handcraft Workshop on coconut shell craft making, organised by the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Information and Arts, is currently underway at the Youth Hub to strengthen creative skills among youth.
According to the ministry, the workshop is designed for youth aged 18 to 35 and focuses on teaching participants how to create a range of traditional and modern craft items using coconut shells. A total of 15 youths are currently participating in the programme.
The sessions are being held at the Youth Hub, with classes conducted daily from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., free of charge. The ministry said the initiative is part of efforts to provide accessible skill-building opportunities for young people.
The workshop is among several activities being carried out at the Youth Hub, which was established as a central space to support youth engagement, creativity and talent development. Since its opening, the hub has hosted a variety of programmes aimed at encouraging artistic expression and community participation.
Last weekend, the Youth Hub also offered free screenings of Maldivian films, further promoting local arts and culture among young audiences.
The ministry said the objective of these initiatives is to help young people showcase their talents, strengthen their skills, and become active and productive members of society. The ministry added that similar programmes will continue to be introduced to expand opportunities for youth development across the country.
