People’s National Congress (PNC) Parliamentary Group Leader Ibrahim Falah has stated that Major General (Rtd) Moosa Ali Jaleel is the strongest candidate in the Malé City mayoral race.
Speaking at the inauguration of PNC mayoral candidate Jaleel’s campaign office, Falah said Jaleel’s past record and years of public service continue to set him apart from other candidates contesting the election.
Falah said Jaleel would serve the people of Malé without discrimination if elected, adding that he would work closely with the Government to fulfil the pledges made by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu to the residents of the capital.
He described Jaleel as a national figure who had served the country from a young age and held several senior positions, noting that his service record demonstrated commitment to the nation and its people.
Referring to the city’s political history, Falah said residents had grown dissatisfied with previous administrations under the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) and elected President Dr Mohamed Muizzu as mayor. He said President Dr Muizzu’s mayoral tenure brought notable improvements, which contributed to his strong public support in the 2023 presidential election.
Falah further said Jaleel is a sincere and honest individual who has entered the mayoral race with the intention of serving all residents of Malé, as well as other Maldivians living in the city, without discrimination. He added that throughout Jaleel’s career in public service, there had been no allegations of actions harmful to the country or its people.
Concluding his remarks, Falah said the recent PNC primaries recorded the highest turnout seen in a party primary, which he said reflected growing public confidence in the PNC and President Dr Muizzu.
