The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has completed 90 per cent of the construction of the new fire station rescue jetty at Velana International Airport (VIA).

According to MTCC, major works, including gangway installation, floating dock installation, tire fenders, ladders, handgrips, SOS pedestal, and roof truss installation, have already been completed.

The company stated that roofing fabric installation and utility electrical and plumbing works are currently in progress at the project site.

The rescue jetty is a critical extension of the new fire station, a 2,230-square-foot facility inaugurated in June 2024. The station is fully operational, equipped with advanced control rooms and space for five firefighting vehicles, including two marine vessels.

The ongoing jetty project will provide the necessary docking infrastructure to support sea rescue operations, strengthening emergency response capacity at the country’s main international gateway.
