The Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA), in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and several financial institutions, has conducted a one-day programme aimed at equipping teachers of Islamic subjects in Malé schools with practical knowledge on Islamic finance.

Titled ‘Practical Insights: Islamic Finance for Educators’, the session sought to ensure educators are well-informed about Islamic finance within the Maldivian context. The programme also introduced teachers to the services and practices of institutions currently providing Islamic finance in the Maldives. The goal was to enable teachers to impart accurate knowledge to students, fostering awareness and understanding from a young age.

During his address at the session, MMA Governor Ahmed Munawar highlighted the importance of promoting Islamic finance in the Maldives. He noted that fostering awareness among school leavers is crucial for its development. He further stressed that the growth of Islamic finance is dependent on ensuring the younger generation understands its principles and benefits.

The programme covered various essential topics, including the distinctions between Islamic banking and conventional banking, as well as insurance and Takaful. Teachers were also provided with strategies to address frequently asked questions from students about Islamic finance, ensuring that teachers can confidently clarify the values and operations of Islamic financial services.

The session, held on Saturday, featured a range of key financial institutions, including Maldives Centre for Islamic Finance, Bank of Maldives Islamic, HDFC, Amana Takaful, Maldives Islamic Bank, and Ayady Takaful.
