Construction of the new Baa Thulhaadhoo Hospital is expected to be completed by the end of this year, according to the Maldives Transport and Construction Company (MTCC).
The Government commenced development of a new hospital in Thulhaadhoo on 24 July 2023 to address long-standing healthcare needs on the island. The project was originally scheduled for completion within one year and six months; however, progress slowed due to various challenges.
MTCC said work is now advancing toward a year-end completion target, with cementing works currently underway at the site.
The contract for the two-storey hospital was awarded to MTCC at a cost of MVR 124 million. Once completed, the facility will operate as a 30-bed hospital equipped with modern medical services. The project scope also includes the construction of an accommodation block for hospital staff.
Home to a population of more than 3,100, Thulhaadhoo has faced persistent concerns over limited access to healthcare services. The new hospital is expected to significantly improve the availability and quality of medical care for residents of the island and surrounding communities.
