Veteran actor Mohamed Naeem, who contributed for many years to the Maldivian film and television industry, has passed away at the age of 71.

Naeem appeared in a wide range of productions, from dramas produced by the Atolls Ministry to TVM dramas and films. He was widely recognised for his performances in popular works including Dhirulhumakee Meebaa and the Dhivehi film Zuleykha. Zuleykha went on to win the Best Film award at the National Film Awards in 2007.

Naeem passed away on Sunday night. His funeral prayer is scheduled to be held after noon today.

Mohamed Naeem was regarded as a familiar and respected figure in the Maldivian entertainment industry, earning popularity both for his on-screen roles.
