The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has issued an advisory urging the public to take precautionary measures as haze continues to affect air quality across the Maldives. The advisory follows reports of haze over central regions, with the Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) warning that the effects are expected to persist nationwide for the next two days. MET noted that haze intensity is currently at its highest compared to the past week, with visibility reduced to as low as two kilometres.
According to IQAir, air quality levels in parts of the country, including Fuvahmulah City and Kulhudhuffushi City, have reached severely polluted (red alert) levels, while other regions are also experiencing poor air quality. HPA cautioned that exposure in red-alert areas increases the risk of lung and cardiovascular diseases, advising residents to limit outdoor activities, wear masks when outdoors, keep doors and windows closed, and use air purifiers where possible.
