The Ministry of Education has announced the launch of a special year-long training programme Bingaa, instructing all schools to take the necessary steps to implement the initiative aimed at strengthening students’ moral values and social behaviour.
According to a circular issued to schools, the programme will be carried out throughout the year with the participation of schools, parents, and the wider community. The initiative is designed to instil positive values and habits among students, while reinforcing good conduct.
The ministry stated that the programme will be structured around a specific theme each month, beginning with the theme “Shukuruverivun”. Schools will be informed of upcoming monthly themes in advance to allow for preparation and coordination of activities. A special committee appointed by the Ministry of Education will oversee the programme, including selecting themes, sharing activity guidelines with schools, and providing implementation support.
As part of the initiative, schools are required to conduct activities that promote religious duties, etiquette, and moral conduct among students. These include fostering values such as respect, responsibility, cleanliness, care, kindness, and compassion. Students will also be guided on how each monthly theme relates to prayer.
The ministry noted that school principals will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of the programme at the school level. In addition to activities, schools are encouraged to hold a special assembly each month to introduce and discuss the theme. Larger activities, such as island-level panel discussions, are also planned to further develop students’ knowledge and skills related to each theme.
The circular further emphasised that all school-organised activities should encourage good manners and positive behaviour. Schools have also been instructed to inform parents and students about ways to apply the monthly themes within the community and to share programme-related activities through the schools’ official social media platforms.
