More than 22,000 cases of canned tuna have been distributed to households in the Greater Malé Region within the first week of the Government’s Roadha Hadhiyaa Programme, according to figures released by the Ministry of Cities, Local Government and Public Works.
The ministry said distribution began at 8:30 p.m. on 24 January, with the programme implemented in collaboration with several State-owned enterprises. As of the latest update, a total of 22,901 cases have been issued from designated distribution centres in Malé City, Vilimalé and Hulhumalé.
Canned tuna is being distributed based on registered domestic electricity meters, with each meter treated as one household. There are 65,230 registered domestic meters in the Greater Malé Region. Distribution in the atolls is being carried out through island councils.
To ensure orderly distribution, households are required to collect tokens through a dedicated online portal, with 300 tokens issued each night. Distribution points in the Greater Malé Region include the MIFCO Headquarters, Social Centre, MTCC saw mill, National Stadium and Henveiru Stadium.
In Hulhumalé Phase I, cases are being issued from Umar Zahir Building, Polco Tower and Mohamed Qasim Pre-School, while Kamil Didi Pre-School, Hiyaa Tower 10 and MPL Tower P are serving as distribution centres in Hulhumalé Phase II. Additional distribution is also taking place from the WAMCO site in Vilimalé.
Under the Roadha Hadhiyaa Programme, a total of 118,673 households nationwide are scheduled to receive one case of canned tuna each. This includes 61,755 households in the Malé region and 56,918 households in the atolls.
The programme was announced by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, who pledged that every household would receive a case of canned tuna during the holy month of Ramadan. The Government has continued the practice of providing Roadha Hadhiyaa to households since assuming office, with a similar distribution carried out last year.
