President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed the Administration's commitment to promoting awareness of voluntary blood donation and fostering a culture of solidarity and shared responsibility in protecting public health.
In a message shared to mark World Blood Donor Day, the President recognised the invaluable contribution of voluntary blood donors, noting that their generosity helps save lives and provides vital support to individuals living with lifelong conditions as well as patients requiring emergency medical care.
President Dr Muizzu stated that blood remains an irreplaceable resource despite remarkable advancements in medicine and technology. He stressed that voluntary blood donation is essential in safeguarding public health, ensuring effective healthcare delivery and strengthening national emergency preparedness.
Highlighting the Maldives' unique geographical setting as a dispersed island nation, the President noted that timely access to blood can make a critical difference during medical emergencies.
World Blood Donor Day is observed annually on 14 June to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products, while honouring voluntary, unpaid blood donors for their life-saving contributions.
