President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has assured that his Administration will work towards providing permanent solutions to the concerns raised by members of the K. Gaafaru Island Council and Women’s Development Committee.
During his visit to the island on Monday morning, the President met with Council members and Committee representatives to discuss key challenges affecting the community.
Highlighting several pressing issues, Council members and Committee representatives emphasised the critical need for a functional health centre, called attention to the lack of land lease opportunities for nearly two decades, and urged the incorporation of a land reclamation initiative to address the island's space constraints. They also expressed concerns about the limited capacity of the island’s school and the difficulties faced by local fishermen.
The Women’s Development Committee specifically pointed out budgetary limitations and delays in completing the island’s handball court.
In response, President Dr Muizzu reassured the community that the Administration is committed to fulfilling its pledges. He emphasised that health and education projects would receive special attention in the coming year, and priority would be given to ensuring that all development projects proceed without interruptions.
Additionally, the Cabinet Ministers accompanying the President shared the most recent updates on the progress of development projects in Gaafaru Island with the Council members and Committee representatives.
