The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has provided temporary shelter to 21 people affected by a fire in Hulhumalé Phase I early Sunday.
The fire occurred at lot number 11154 on Chambeylee Magu 5, Hulhumalé Phase I. The incident originated in a warehouse located beneath a six-storey residential building, causing damage to property and the building’s electrical panel.
Firefighters from the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Malé Area Command and Hulhumalé Fire Station responded to the incident after receiving an emergency call at 3:30 a.m. on Sunday. The fire was brought under control within 10 minutes and fully extinguished by 3:40 a.m.
Initial findings indicate that the fire first broke out in garbage outside the warehouse before spreading inside, resulting in extensive damage to the warehouse and electrical wiring of the building.
NDMA said temporary shelter and meals have been arranged for 21 affected individuals.
The incident comes days after a separate fire broke out at Hiyaa Tower 5 on Friday. NDMA provided temporary shelter to 140 people after sewer pipes were damaged in 38 apartments.
