PNC secures 10 council seats unopposed ahead of Council Elections

The People’s National Congress (PNC) has so far secured 10 local council seats uncontested ahead of the upcoming Local Council and Women's Development Committee (WDC) Elections.
In Baa Eydhafushi, the PNC won two of the five women’s seats on the island council after no other candidates contested those positions. Zeema Ibrahim and Nazneen Yusuf were nominated by the PNC and secured the seats unopposed.
Zeema currently serves as the President of the island’s Women’s Development Committee, while Nazneen is an incumbent council member.
Beyond Eydhafushi, the PNC has also secured uncontested council and Women’s Development Committee seats in Dhidhdhoo and Omadhoo. The party has further won the positions of Island Council President in Haa Alifu Baarah and Utheemu.
In Thaa Vilufushi, the PNC has already secured eight out of 10 seats across the island council and Women’s Development Committee.
A total of 2,993 candidates are contesting the upcoming Local Council Elections, which are scheduled to be held on 4 April. The PNC is fielding the largest number of candidates nationwide.
The Elections Commission has stated that 294,937 voters are eligible to vote in this year’s elections, comprising 144,527 women and 150,410 men.
