The Government has revised the President’s Scholarship policy to allow eligible students to pursue higher education in any field of their choice, expanding flexibility under one of the country’s most prestigious scholarship schemes.
Under the revised policy published in the Government Gazette, scholarship recipients will now be able to enrol in programmes of their choice at recognised higher education institutions, including those accredited by the Maldives Qualifications Authority, with provisions also allowing students to participate in twinning programmes across multiple countries.
The policy further outlines that where internship requirements cannot be completed in the country of study, or can be undertaken at lower cost elsewhere, students may be permitted to complete such components in the Maldives or another country with approval from the ministry.
The policy also includes additional provisions to support students under the President’s and High Achiever’s Scholarships pursuing higher education in the Maldives, with an additional MVR 6,000 allowance introduced to encourage high-achieving students to study locally.
Students awarded the President’s Scholarship will continue to be required to serve the Government for a period of four to seven years, with the revised policy also extending flexibility to students who completed A-Level examinations in 2025 under the scheme, allowing them to pursue fields of their choice.
