Vice President Uz Hussain Mohamed Latheef has said that candidates from the People’s National Congress (PNC) will set an example in upholding the social standards and principles outlined by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.

The Vice President made the remarks while speaking at a ceremony held on Tuesday to open the PNC campaign booth in the Maafannu West constituency ahead of the upcoming Local Council and Women’s Development Committee elections.

Addressing the gathering, the Vice President said President Dr Muizzu’s Administration is grounded in stability, security and progress, adding that efforts are underway to strengthen the social fabric of both the Malé area and the wider country.

He said that since assuming office, the President has prioritised social harmony through legislative initiatives in Parliament, as well as the introduction of new regulations and policies. The Vice President also noted that many of the plans aimed at resolving social challenges in the capital were developed during President Dr Muizzu’s tenure as Mayor of Malé City.

The Vice President said full implementation of these initiatives requires cooperation from the Malé City Council, urging voters to elect PNC candidates who support the President’s agenda.

Expressing confidence in the party’s candidates, the Vice President said their records demonstrate their commitment to public service. He highlighted Ashiyath Alaika Adnan, the PNC candidate for President of the Women’s Development Committee of Malé City, describing her as a strong advocate for women’s rights. He also praised Mariyam Abdulla, the PNC candidate contesting the Women’s Development Committee seat in Maafannu West, noting her three decades of public service.

The Vice President said the candidates would act without delay in implementing the President’s manifesto, adding that they would help raise the standard of public service in the Maldives.
