President Dr Mohamed Muizzu met parents representing the Maldives Autism Support and Neuro-Inclusion Unity to hear concerns related to education, therapy and skills development for children with autism and other special needs.

The meeting took place at the President’s Office on Wednesday, where parents outlined challenges in strengthening inclusive education, expanding access to vocational training and improving the availability of therapy services.

Parents also put forward a number of proposals, including enabling students with special needs to learn the Quran in schools, strengthening existing therapy services, and establishing a central facility where education, therapy and skills training could be provided in one location. Concerns were also raised about the current composition of the Disability Council.

President Dr Muizzu said he had taken note of the issues raised and assured the parents that their concerns and suggestions would be given due consideration. He said efforts would be made to identify solutions and take forward measures to address the challenges highlighted during the meeting.
