A total of 46,147 canned tuna cases have been distributed to households in the Greater Malé area under the Government’s Roadha Hadhiyaa programme as of Monday night.
The distribution programme began on the night of 24 January, with several Government-owned companies participating in the initiative at the request of the Ministry of Cities, Local Government and Public Works. Distribution is carried out daily from 8:30 pm to 11:00 pm, except on Fridays.
The ministry has said distribution to households in the Greater Malé area will continue until 11 February, with the collection deadline set for 11:00 pm on that date.
There are 65,230 registered domestic electricity meters in the Malé area, with each domestic meter treated as a household for the purpose of the distribution.
To facilitate the process, 14 distribution centres have been established across the Greater Malé area. Tokens are being issued to households to manage and streamline the collection process.
The ministry also said local councils have been assigned responsibility for distributing canned tuna cases in the atolls.
Members of the public have been urged to collect their cases ahead of the deadline and avoid waiting until the final days of the distribution period.
