Visit Maldives Corporation has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with German tour operator DERTOUR Deutschland to cooperate on tourism promotion and market engagement activities in Germany, one of the Maldives’ key European source markets.
The agreement was signed in Berlin on 10 February during President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s official visit to Germany. The MoU was signed on behalf of Visit Maldives Corporation by Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Ibrahim Shiuree, while DERTOUR Deutschland was represented by Director for the Indian Ocean and Asia, Jörn Krausser.
According to Visit Maldives Corporation, the partnership will involve coordinated destination marketing activities and engagement with travel trade partners in Germany. The collaboration will focus on increasing tourist arrivals from the German market through joint campaigns and promotional initiatives aligned with travel demand patterns and distribution channels. The initiatives aims to drive a minimum of 100,000 German tourist arrivals, with a shared ambition to exceed 200,000 German visitors in the following year.
The agreement also provides for cooperation on selected trade events, sales activities, and promotional programmes organised by either party. Both sides will exchange market-related information to support planning and monitoring of tourism promotion activities, subject to applicable data-sharing and confidentiality arrangements.
DERTOUR Deutschland has an existing commercial presence in the Maldivian tourism sector through its portfolio of tour operator brands and resort investments. Officials said the agreement builds on this existing relationship between the tour operator and Maldivian tourism stakeholders.
Germany remains one of the Maldives’ major European tourism source markets. Visit Maldives Corporation said the agreement forms part of its wider engagement with international tour operators in priority markets to support tourism promotion efforts and market diversification.
