President Dr Mohamed Muizzu on Tuesday attended the oath ceremony of Bangladesh’s newly elected Prime Minister, Tarique Rahman, held at the National Parliament in Dhaka.
The ceremony saw Bangladesh’s President, Mohammed Shahabuddin, administer the oath of office to Prime Minister Rahman and members of his new Cabinet. The event was attended by leaders and senior representatives from neighbouring and friendly countries.
Bangladesh held its 13th parliamentary elections on 12 February, in which Rahman, Chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), led his party to a clear victory. He becomes the first male Prime Minister of Bangladesh since 1991.
Following the oath ceremony, President Dr Muizzu met Prime Minister Rahman, where the two leaders discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation and reaffirmed the longstanding friendship between the Maldives and Bangladesh.
President Dr Muizzu is visiting Bangladesh at the invitation of the Government of Bangladesh to attend the oath-taking ceremony.
