The Government has stated that Maldivian airspace will not be permitted to be used to launch attacks against any country, and that no such permission has ever been granted.
Foreign Minister Dr Abdulla Khaleel made the statement during a press briefing held by a special Cabinet committee established by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu to assess the potential impacts of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
The minister stressed that the Maldives has not allowed its airspace to be used for military attacks against any country and will not grant such permission under any circumstances. He added that even if such requests were made, they would be rejected.
Minister Dr Khaleel’s remarks come in response to claims circulating in political circles alleging that Maldivian airspace had been used to launch attacks on Iran. Similar claims have also suggested that a United States military vessel involved in such operations had been allowed to dock in the Maldives.
The Government has dismissed these allegations as false and without factual basis.
