Air quality across the Maldives has improved following a period of unhealthy conditions earlier this month.

Recent data released by the Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) shows that air quality readings have returned to the normal range, with the national average recorded at around 60 on the Air Quality Index (AQI).

Regional readings indicate that the Malé area currently has an AQI of 55, while Addu City recorded the lowest level in the country at 33.

The meteorological office stated that air quality is expected to continue improving over the next three days, with favourable atmospheric conditions forecast during this period.

Earlier this month, deteriorating air quality prompted the Health Protection Agency to advise the public to take precautionary measures when going outdoors.

While visibility and air quality have improved, the meteorological office noted that the Maldives is currently experiencing one of the hotter periods of the year.

“Feels-like” temperatures remained high across several locations today. The perceived temperature reached 35.7°C in Hanimaadhoo and Kaadedhdhoo. In the Malé area, the perceived temperature was recorded at 34.9°C. The temperature stood at 34.5°C in Kadhdhoo and 33.8°C in Gan.
