President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has extended his condolences following the passing of Abdul Muiz Hassan, the former chairperson of the Thalassaemia Society of Maldives and a prominent advocate for the thalassaemia community.

In a formal message to the bereaved family, President Dr Muizzu expressed deep sadness over the loss of Muiz, who also served as a dedicated member of the society’s executive committee. The President highlighted Muiz’s character, describing him as a compassionate and resilient individual who was well-regarded for his kindness and leadership.

Muiz passed away while receiving treatment in an intensive care unit following a period of deteriorating health. He had previously sought medical care abroad for complications related to his condition.

Throughout his tenure as the head of the Thalassaemia Society, he was recognised as a steadfast advocate for the rights of affected families and played a pivotal role in launching initiatives to support children living with the disorder.

Beyond his advocacy work, Muiz was a long-serving employee of the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), where he also held the position of president of the HDC staff club.
