The Maldives Zakat House has begun distributing Zakat al-Fitr collected in the form of grain.
The distribution started Tuesday at the Centre for Higher Secondary Education (CHSE), following the collection phase that began on 14 March. During the collection period, Zakat House accepted various types of grain and flour from the public as Zakat al-Fitr contributions.
Distribution will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday for individuals living in the Malé area who are registered on the official list of low-income individuals.
Zakat House stated that the distribution is being conducted in two sessions each day. The morning session runs from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., while the afternoon session takes place from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Six types of grain were accepted this year as Zakat al-Fitr contributions. These include white rice, Thai rice, Basmati rice, red rice, wheat flour and atta flour.
Statistics released by Zakat House also show an increase in financial Zakat contributions this Ramadan. During the first 15 days of the month, a total of MVR 5.4 million was collected, marking the highest amount recorded during the same period in the past three years.
