Minister of Finance and Planning Moosa Zameer has criticised the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), stating that its previous administrations implemented budgets without adequately considering the long-term impact on the country’s economy.

Minister Zameer made the remarks while speaking during a door-to-door campaign organised by the People’s National Congress (PNC) in the West Maafannu constituency ahead of the upcoming elections.

He emphasised that the current Administration is focused on fulfilling its pledges and implementing fiscal policies aimed at strengthening the economy over the long term. He added that after the change of Government, requests were made to include additional development projects in the 2024 State budget, but these proposals had not been incorporated by the previous administration.

Minister Zameer described the first budget prepared by the current Government, presented at the end of 2024 and implemented in 2025, as a successful one, noting that reforms introduced by the Administration have contributed to improving economic conditions.

He further stated that under the current Government’s policies, basic services and development projects are being carried out in collaboration with the private sector and expressed confidence that the State budget proposed for this year would also deliver significant benefits to the public.
