The Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) has invited the public and relevant stakeholders to submit information as part of its ongoing investigation into occupational safety and health conditions at Waste Management Corporation Limited (WAMCO).

In a public announcement issued on 18 March 2026, the Commission stated that the investigation is being conducted under Section 21(b) of the Human Rights Commission Act (Act No. 6/2006). The inquiry focuses on issues related to the occupational safety, health and well-being of employees engaged in waste collection and management at WAMCO.

HRCM said the investigation is being carried out in accordance with the Commission’s mandate under the Constitution of the Maldives and the Human Rights Commission Act to protect and promote human rights in the country.

The Commission has invited current and former employees of WAMCO, workers’ unions or employee representatives, relevant stakeholders, and members of the public who may possess information related to the matter to submit details that could assist the investigation.

Information may be submitted via email, telephone, or in person at the Human Rights Commission office in Malé. The deadline for submission of information is 12:00 p.m. on 26 March 2026.

Individuals who wish to remain anonymous may also submit information without disclosing their identity. The Commission assured that the confidentiality of informants will be maintained, adding that legal action will be taken against any party that undertakes retaliatory measures against individuals who provide information in connection with the investigation.

The investigation follows concerns raised regarding workplace safety at WAMCO, including a recent incident involving an employee at the corporation’s Malé facility.
