Police probe investigation into Maafannu warehouse fire

Maldives Police Service has launched an investigation into the fire that broke out at the Prime Godown in Maafannu, as authorities work to determine the cause of the incident. Police said the fire was reported at around 9:57 p.m., with MNDF Fire and Rescue Service teams responding promptly and bringing the blaze under control at approximately 11:00 p.m.
The warehouse, located at the junction of Izzuddin Magu and Funuhiya Magu, was reportedly used to store plants, pesticides, agricultural equipment and a generator. Authorities are currently processing the scene, with investigations underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The fire resulted in significant impact to the surrounding area, with 77 individuals provided temporary shelter through assistance from relevant agencies. According to earlier updates, 454 people from 15 households had been evacuated due to heavy smoke, while one MNDF firefighter sustained injuries and was taken to hospital. In addition, 13 motorcycles, a pickup truck and a company van were damaged in the fire.
Emergency response efforts involved multiple agencies, including MNDF, MACL and supporting teams, as authorities worked to contain the blaze and ensure public safety. Police said further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
