Atoll ferry services from the Henveiru Ferry Terminal are set to move to alternative terminals in Malé and Hulhumalé, as MTCC begins the next phase of the Boduthakurufaanu Magu redevelopment.
MTCC announced that the changes will take effect from Monday, with ferries previously departing from and arriving at the Henveiru Terminal redirected to the Maafannu (Villingili) Ferry Terminal and the Hulhumalé Ferry Terminal.
The relocation is necessary to facilitate construction works tied to the third phase of the Boduthakurufaanu Magu modernisation project, which is due to begin this Saturday. As part of the works, the lagoon area between the Presidential Jetty and the Henveiru Ferry Terminal will be temporarily closed to allow for road expansion.
Boduthakurufaanu Magu is one of Malé's principal roads, and the redevelopment project seeks to modernise it through asphalt paving and infrastructure upgrades aimed at reducing congestion and improving movement across the city.
Work on previous phases has been wrapped up, with the section running from North Harbour to Republic Square already accessible to the public.
A total of MVR 144 million has been allocated by the Government for the project, which is anticipated to bring considerable improvements to traffic management and transport links in the capital.
The public is urged to familiarise themselves with the new terminal arrangements before Monday. Those seeking clarification on ferry schedules or operations can get in touch with MTCC directly via its hotline, 1650.
