President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has reassured that building a compassionate and inclusive society, where everyone has equal opportunities, remains a key priority of the Government.
In a message shared on his official X account to mark World Down Syndrome Day, the President highlighted that the Holy Quran and the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad provide clear guidance on the importance of compassion and kindness, particularly towards those who require special care and support. He noted that such acts carry great reward and virtue.
The President also stated that supporting those facing difficulties is among the most meaningful forms of charity in Islam, describing it as both a lasting and impactful act of goodness.
He further emphasised that showing kindness and empathy towards every child and individual living with Down syndrome is both a religious duty and a human responsibility that must be upheld in Maldivian society.
Reflecting on this year’s theme, “Together Against Loneliness,” the President said the message highlights the importance of ensuring that no individual is left behind or excluded from society.
The President also pointed to ongoing Government efforts to build a more inclusive society, noting that various initiatives have been undertaken over the past 28 months to support this objective.
