First Lady Sajidha Mohamed has called for renewed commitment to creating a society where everyone is recognised, valued, and given a true sense of belonging.

In a message shared on her official X account to mark World Down Syndrome Day, the First Lady emphasised the need to be more aware and intentional in how people treat one another, urging efforts to build a society where no individual feels invisible. She stated that belonging is not a privilege, but a right.

The First Lady noted that individuals experience life in different ways, describing this diversity as a strength that enriches society. She added that people with Down Syndrome often face exclusion and loneliness, yet continue to demonstrate love, kindness, and resilience.

World Down Syndrome Day is observed annually on 21 March. This year’s theme, “Together Against Loneliness,” calls on communities worldwide to stand together in addressing loneliness and promoting inclusion.
