Minister of Finance and Planning Moosa Zameer has stated that the Government has no plans to increase fuel prices, assuring that sufficient fuel stocks are available to meet current demand.
Speaking at a press briefing held today at the President’s Office, Minister Zameer said the ongoing conflict in the Middle East has had an impact on both State revenue and private sector income, partly due to changes in tourist arrivals. He noted that the Government is working with relevant authorities to manage these challenges.
The minister said efforts are ongoing to ensure the continued provision of essential services, including health services, food supply and remittances for students abroad, while maintaining price stability. He added that the Government is also working to ensure that fuel supply operations, including those carried out by private traders alongside STO, are not adversely affected.
Minister Zameer stated that the Maldives currently has adequate fuel reserves, with two shipments already delivered by STO and additional consignments expected in the coming months, including shipments from Singapore and Sohar, Oman.
While noting that global oil prices are on the rise, the minister reiterated that there are no immediate plans to adjust domestic fuel prices, adding that the Government remains committed to ensuring fuel remains affordable, including for key industries.
