Minister of Finance and Planning Moosa Zameer has assured that health and housing-related projects will not be halted amid planned cost-cutting measures.

Speaking at a press briefing held today by a special Cabinet committee formed by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu to assess the potential impacts of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East today, the minister said the cabinet is seeking the President's guidance on cost-cutting measures should the situation worsen.

The minister assured that any cost-cutting measures will not come at the expense of essential services. President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has directed that healthcare and housing projects must continue without interruption, regardless of the fiscal pressures the country may face.

Minister Zameer said the Government has the option of deferring certain non-essential projects if the conflict persists, adding that adjusting project schedules alone could help manage cash flow without halting critical works.

He further stated that the Maldives could face monthly losses of between MVR 85 million and MVR 95 million if the Middle East conflict continues to escalate. The projected figures are based on estimates by the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA), the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA), and the Ministry of Finance.

The minister noted that no formal measures have yet been announced, as the government continues to assess the evolving situation. He assured the public that the Government's immediate priority remains the uninterrupted delivery of essential services to all citizens.
