Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works Adam Shareef Umar has stated that the construction of 55 council office buildings under the contractor finance scheme is progressing as planned and is expected to be completed within the stipulated timeframe.
Speaking at a press conference held at the President’s Office, the minister said several council buildings across the islands are now nearing completion, with some offices already vacated in preparation for relocation to the new facilities.
He noted that all council office projects under the scheme are scheduled for completion by the end of July, adding that arrangements have been made to supply furniture and equipment from China without delays.
The minister expressed confidence that the projects will be delivered on time, highlighting that the new facilities will provide improved working space for councils and Women’s Development Committees (WDCs), enabling more efficient service delivery.
The initiative forms part of the programme to develop council infrastructure nationwide, with plans to construct new buildings in 105 islands, including 55 under contractor financing and a further 50 with grant assistance from the Chinese government.
