The Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure, Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy, and Ministry of Housing, Land and Urban Development, have temporarily suspended services following a fire that severely damaged their premises on December 12, 2024.

In an official statement, the Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure announced that public services have been halted due to the incident. The Ministry assured that services will resume as soon as possible and that a date for resumption would be announced at a later time.

Similarly, the Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy confirmed the suspension of its services due to the fire. The Ministry of Housing also reported a temporary halt to its services, adding that a search is underway for a temporary workspace to continue its operations.

Addressing public concerns, the Housing Ministry reassured that all data related to the Gedhoruveriya Scheme, Binveriya Scheme, and Hiyaavehi Financing Programme is safe.

The affected building housed both the Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure and the Ministry of Housing, Land and Urban Development. Additionally, the adjacent Ministry of Climate Change and Environment sustained damage.

All three Ministries have confirmed that no staff members were injured in the fire.

The fire, which broke out at approximately 6:30 AM, has been brought under control by the Maldives Defence Force (MNDF). However, the Housing Ministry building has been completely destroyed.
