Former Prosecutor General Muhthaz Muhsin has said the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) is expected to secure more than 70 percent of seats in the upcoming Local Council elections.
Speaking to MMTV, Muhthaz made the remarks in response to statements by former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, who recently announced that his party would support candidates contesting against the PNC in the elections.
Muhthaz said that while he respects former presidents, he does not believe Yameen currently holds significant political influence in the country’s political landscape, adding that recent political developments reflect shifting public support.
He expressed confidence that the PNC would secure a clear majority in the elections without leaving seats uncontested, stating that the party’s performance would reflect voter support for its policies and leadership.
The remarks come amid increasing political activity ahead of the Local Council and WDC elections, with parties positioning their alliances and strategies in the lead-up to the vote.
