The Elections Commission (EC) has begun nationwide distribution of polling materials ahead of the elections scheduled for April 4, with logistics operations now underway across the country.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Commission said essential supplies including ballot papers, ballot boxes, and polling station equipment are being transported to atolls via both air and sea routes to ensure timely delivery.

A total of 347 polling stations will be established nationwide to facilitate three concurrent votes: the local council elections, the Women’s Development Committee elections, and a public referendum on synchronising future presidential and parliamentary elections.

Air shipments scheduled for Saturday will be sent to Haa Alifu, Raa, Thaa, Laamu, Gaafu Alifu, Gaafu Dhaalu, and Seenu atolls, as well as Fuvahmulah and Addu City. At the same time, sea transport will be used to deliver materials to Haa Dhaalu, Shaviyani, Noonu, Baa, Lhaviyani, Alifu Alifu, Alifu Dhaalu, Vaavu, Meemu, Faafu, and Dhaalu atolls.

The distribution is being carried out in phases with the support of the Maldives Police Service, and is expected to be completed in most regions by Saturday night. Arrangements for Kaafu Atoll are scheduled for March 30 and 31.
