A new multi-sports facility, ‘Hulhumalé Kulhivaru Ekuveni’, featuring dedicated courts for various sports, has been opened in Hulhumalé Phase II by the Housing Development Corporation (HDC).

The Hulhumalé sports complex has been developed on a vacant plot located near Salahuddin School in Hulhumalé Phase II.

The facility was inaugurated during a special ceremony held on Friday night by HDC’s Managing Director, Brigadier General (Retired) Ali Zuhair. The event was attended by North Hulhumalé MP Hussain Shareef, senior HDC officials, and members of several sports academies.

The complex includes courts and pitches designed for multiple sports, including badminton, volleyball, basketball, handball, and netball. HDC stated that the facility is expected to ease current challenges faced by sports communities in accessing adequate spaces for training and play.

In his Presidential Address 2026, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu highlighted the importance of promoting sports as part of efforts to ensure a healthier population.

HDC noted that the new facility represents an important step toward enhancing social wellbeing and improving public health through increased access to sports infrastructure.
