Road development works have officially commenced in Gaafu Dhaalu Hoan’dedhdhoo.
A special ceremony was held in Hoan’dedhdhoo to inaugurate the project, with Vice President Hussain Uz Mohamed Latheef officiating the launch. The event was attended by Madaveli constituency MP Mohamed Shameez, State Minister for Construction, Housing and Infrastructure Ismail Hameed, MTCC Deputy Managing Director Mohamed Jamsheed, Hoan’dedhdhoo Council President Hussain Varish, and other senior officials.
The project has been awarded to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) at a cost of MVR 93.06 million, with completion scheduled within 720 days.
The project will involve the development of 3.33 kilometres of roads across the island. The scope of work includes the installation of a stormwater drainage system, service lines, constructing sidewalks, the establishment of designated carriageways, and the installation of street lighting.
Hoan’dedhdhoo, with a population of 1,347, has long faced challenges due to the absence of properly developed roads, affecting both pedestrians and vehicles.
