The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has launched an investigation into the unauthorised use of a residential apartment in the Vinares towers of Hulhumalé Phase II as a commercial laundry service centre.

The issue came to light after videos circulated on social media showing industrial-grade laundry equipment operating inside the flat, along with the use of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) to power the machines.

In a statement to media, HDC said it is aware of the matter and has instructed those involved to immediately cease operations.

HDC has not yet disclosed the identity of the party responsible. However, the corporation confirmed that further action will be taken to ensure compliance with its regulations.

The incident has raised concerns among residents over the enforcement of building regulations and the potential impact on residential infrastructure in the area.
