Practical works have commenced on a 13-storey parking building in Hulhumalé Phase I, representing the start of the first project under the Government’s plan to develop seven parking facilities across the Greater Malé Area.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the project, alongside Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Mohamed Ameen, senior officials, and representatives of the contractor, Batch Construction.
The multi-storey facility will include a basement and 13 floors. Upon completion, it is expected to accommodate more than 800 four-wheeled vehicles and over 500 two-wheeled vehicles. The building will also be equipped with ramps and vehicle elevators to facilitate efficient traffic movement within the structure.
Speaking at the ceremony, Managing Director of Batch Construction Mohamed Saeed said the design was developed following extensive studies and in line with international standards. He added that measures have been incorporated to ensure smooth traffic flow at entry and exit points, as well as within the building.
In addition to parking facilities, the development will include commercial outlets, service areas, and recreational spaces. Saeed noted that the project adopts a “lifestyle” concept and will also feature infrastructure to support electric vehicle charging.
The Government has announced plans to construct seven parking buildings across the Greater Malé Area to address ongoing congestion, with this project being the first to move into the implementation phase.
