The Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) has officially inaugurated the Addu Fish Processing Facility in Seenu Hulhumeedhoo aimed at processing fish sourced from the southern region of the Maldives.

The facility was opened during a ceremony held in Hulhumeedhoo on Tuesday evening. The inauguration was officiated by State Minister at the Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources, Aminath Hussain Shareef. Senior officials from MIFCO, including CEO and Managing Director Brigadier General (Retired) Farhath Shaheer, as well as other company executives and representatives from the Addu Fisheries Complex, were in attendance.

MIFCO stated that the newly established centre is designed to purchase and process fish caught in the southern atolls. Through the Addu Fish Processing Facility, local fishermen are expected to benefit from more secure and reliable opportunities to sell their catch, while also gaining access to value-added fish products. The company noted that this initiative will help increase income within the fisheries sector in the region.

The facility will utilise blast freezing technology in its processing operations. Starting from today, processed fish products will be available for purchase at the MIFCO outlet in Hulhumeedhoo.

In addition, the company has begun efforts to appoint distributors to ensure that products from the facility are made available across all areas of Addu Atoll.
