Heavy machinery procured to expedite projects across Maldives --
A large fleet of heavy machinery has been procured by the Government to expedite infrastructure development projects across the country.
The machinery was procured from China’s XCMG under an agreement between Infrastructure Development Solutions (IDS) and RDC, and was formally handed over at a ceremony held in Kaafu Thilafushi on Thursday.
Under the agreement, a total of 230 machines required to launch and sustain large-scale projects have been brought into the country. The initiative is expected to significantly enhance the Maldives’ capacity to carry out infrastructure works more efficiently and cost-effectively across various islands.
In a statement issued earlier this year, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu noted that additional resources would be delivered before the end of April, enabling projects to be undertaken with greater independence and reduced expenditure.
In addition to the machinery, plans are underway to establish maintenance service centres and spare parts facilities. These will be developed in collaboration with the two partnering companies from China, ensuring long-term operational support.
RDC stated that the introduction of this machinery will accelerate the pace of national development while providing sustainable solutions to existing logistical and infrastructure challenges.
